Install

One line

curl -fsSL https://subtypelang.com/install.sh | sh

It downloads the latest sub for your system, checks its SHA-256 against the published SHA256SUMS, puts it in ~/.local/bin (no sudo) and tells you if that folder is not on your PATH. At the end it asks whether to install the Claude Code skill as well, so your agent writes scripts in Subtype.

Read the script first if you like: /install.sh is about 120 lines of plain sh.

Options

Pass options after sh -s -- when you pipe:

Option	Does
--skill	also install the Claude Code skill, without asking
--no-skill	do not install it, and do not ask
--skill-dir DIR	where the skill goes (default ~/.claude/skills, or $CLAUDE_SKILLS_DIR)
--version X	install a specific version instead of the latest
--dir DIR	where sub goes (default ~/.local/bin, or $SUB_INSTALL_DIR)
--uninstall	remove sub and the skill
--help	show the options

The skill is copied to ~/.claude/skills/subtype. Nothing else in your Claude settings is changed. Start a new Claude Code session to pick it up. Details: For AI agents.

All checksums: SHA256SUMS. The latest version number is at /releases/latest/VERSION and latest.json.

Right now only Linux on x86_64 has a prebuilt binary (a static musl build that runs on any Linux distribution). macOS, Linux on ARM and Windows are not built yet: the installer says so and points you to the section below. This is an early preview and the language is still changing.

Build from source

You need Rust. The first build compiles Wasmtime and takes a few minutes.

Troubleshooting

• sub: command not found: ~/.local/bin is not on your PATH. Add export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH" to your shell profile and open a new terminal.
• checksum mismatch: nothing was installed. Try again; if it persists, tell us.
• fetch fails with a certificate error: sub trusts your system’s certificate bundle ($SSL_CERT_FILE or the usual paths). Install ca-certificates.
• Uninstall: curl -fsSL https://subtypelang.com/install.sh | sh -s -- --uninstall.
